More students in the Netherlands are not paying back their loans

Four mortar boards thrown up in the airNew figures from the Netherlands’ Education Ministry’s student loans payment agency has revealed that more students are not paying back their loans.

Students have 15 years to pay off their loans after graduating from university. However, in the most recent release of figures from 2015, over 90,000 former students had not made the required payments.

In 2015, the repayment rules were changed when grants were fully replaced by loans, meaning that students have 35 years to pay off their debt.
