A report from Moldova’s Ministry of Education about the country’s schools has several findings of concern.
The department’s statistics revealed that 2.8 per cent fewer pupils are attending school. The decline has occurred mainly in the countryside where schools traditionally have fewer students.
The statistics also show that more than 150,000 pupils are from deprived backgrounds, which is 41.9 per cent of the secondary school level pupil population.
In addition, almost 7,000 pupils of primary and secondary levels left the country entirely during 2011.
