altThe personal cloud will replace the PC as the centre of people’s tech existence in just two years’ time, says industry analyst, Gartner Inc.

The IT industry analyst predicts that the personal cloud will give consumers more flexibility as they move between devices and locations. This, it says, will mean that technology providers will have to think carefully about how they deliver services to accommodate the emerging trend.

The move towards a personal cloud has been fuelled by several developments that have emerged over the last few years, such as more technologically knowledgeable consumers, virtualisation and the introduction of apps.

Gartner’s research vice president, Steve Kleynhans, said of the prediction: "Many call this era the post-PC era, but it isn't really about being 'after' the PC, but rather about a new style of personal computing that frees individuals to use computing in fundamentally new ways to improve multiple aspects of their work and personal lives.”
