South African teachers to be taught ICT skills

A plan to speed up training in ICT for teachers in South Africa is being put in place.

The Department of Basic Education has said that although South Africa is beginning to implement technology-led teaching in some regions with great success, the project is being held up in other areas due to teachers not having enough subject knowledge themselves.

To speed up the process, it says that partnerships with technology companies such as Microsoft and Vodacom have been established in order to improve access to technology for the teachers to learn.

In addition, a connectivity plan has been implemented to ensure that all schools are connected to broadband by the end of the financial year in 2020.
